Are Atheists Morally Superior?
This story caught my eye last night online:

I had, up until about a year ago, been compiling web clippings from the news about corrupt religious types. I was astounded at the number of pastors and religious leaders who commit major crimes and at the severity of the crimes (murder, rape etc). It is funny that I have yet to find a story on a corrupt atheist! I have come to the conclusion that we atheists, as the statistics show, are less apt to commit crime than the religious. So why is it that the media and government are constantly trying to tie faith and values together? Should they not be making the obvious link between atheism and values! Good values that is.

There are no athiests priests.
There are two things you misunderstand, first, yes, christianity has become a member's only club instead of a message of love and acceptance.
Secondly, anyone can join the club, but few truly follow the message. Including the church itself.
You just have to look at the US prison population to see a real picture of morality. The vast majority of inmates are Christian, a handful are Muslim, and a very, very tiny few are atheists.

Of course xians will say that these are not "True Xians"
And the sheeple blindly follow their pastors, and hand over their hard-earned money to these crooks, trusting gawd and never questioning.

Love and acceptance??? Then what is all the god inflicted torture, genocide, murder, banishment and annhilation that is found in your holy text about?

As for the message, people do know the message. They are taught that god will forgive them no matter what they do (except for denying god's existence.)
Mark Twain wrote "A man is accepted into a church for what he believes and he is turned out for what he knows."
A church will take in a lying "repentant" before it will accept and respect an atheist.
I think it may be because we realize we are responsible for whatever we do. We don't depend on religion as a cover for our acts.
I realized long ago that the thing that scares believers more than anything is honesty. That is why they are so threatened by atheists. It is small wonder that they follow liars and cheats in their congregations.

With respect, and as an atheist, may I ask you was Stalin not corrupt?
As an atheist? I doubt that. But to answer the tired old comparison of Stalin and Communism to atheism, if Stalin was an 'atheist', then it was incidental to his corruptness. He wasn't corrupt because he was an atheist. The church was a competitor for power and atheism as a part of his regime merely eliminated that competition.
Now, as an atheist, why don't you make a list all of the corrupt people throughout history and look at the ratio of believer to non-believer. I think you will find that the conclusion of my post is validated by history.
First of all, the suggestion by J that Christianity teaches or has every taught "love and acceptance" is clearly absent of historical context. While a select few statements by the character of "Jesus" in the "gospels" might allude to love and acceptence, you would literally have to discard almost every other passage of scripture from Genesis to Revelations to believe that the Judeo-Christian God has any interest in love and acceptance.
Without being adopted several hundred years after being written by those wanting to use it to manipulate, dictate, invate, and dominate... Christianity may be as relevant to us today as Taoism or Zen Buddhism. It's simply ignorant to suggest that Christianity has any interest in love and acceptance. Love and acceptence are the meaningless cover for lies and corruption. Just as "love and acceptance" is a fraction of a percentage of the bible, so it is truly a fraction of what it means to be Christian.
Christians will constantly point to the needles in a haystack that are scriputres of love and acceptence while harboring just about that much love and acceptance in their own heart. Our "Christian" society has pointed a telescope at the needles and it's easy to think they're a bigger part when you refuse to look at the whole thing.
